SATPURA
Explore Our Exclusive Experiences
One of the few naturalist-run lodges in the Country, Forsyth Lodge is not just a Lodge, but the people that make it.
The Lodge is a fulcrum between the guest experiences and conservation through community engagement. The story goes, Forsyth was built by one of India’s eminent naturalists who designed the Satpura tourism model with the forest department to focus on non-motorized experiences.

Camping Experience
Step beyond the cottages and spend a night under the open sky. Our guided camping experience lets you sleep amidst the sounds of the forest, around a crackling fire, and beneath a canopy of stars — a true wilderness adventure.

Jeep Safari
Venture deep into the wilderness with our expert naturalists on an open-jeep safari. From tracking tigers to spotting sloth bears and the vibrant birdlife of Satpura, every drive is a journey into the heart of the jungle.

Dinner Experiences
Evenings at Forsyth Lodge are as memorable as the safaris. Savor thoughtfully crafted meals inspired by local flavors, served in enchanting settings — from candlelit courtyards to starlit dinners in the wilderness. Every meal is an experience, not just a dining table.

Bar Experiences
Unwind after a day in the jungle at our cozy bar, where conversations flow as easily as the handcrafted cocktails. From fine wines to local-inspired mixes, it’s the perfect spot to raise a glass to the wild.

Spa
Soothe your senses after a day of adventure with our nature-inspired spa therapies. Blending traditional techniques with natural ingredients, each treatment is designed to restore balance, rejuvenate the body, and leave you in harmony with the wilderness.

Star Gazing Experiences
As night falls, the forest sky transforms into a glittering canvas. Far from city lights, experience the magic of stargazing — where every constellation feels within reach and the silence of the wild makes the stars shine brighter.
OUR STAYS
As a Leopard seeks respite in the cosiness of his canopy bed, our Gondia cottages and Machaans provide the same comfort and insulation from the Satpura climate, however hot or cold. We do have air-conditioning and heating when you need it. The room is a simple lap of luxury, with small signs of our sustainability efforts peppered all around. We provide you with all the basic amenities and comforts.

Amazing team amazing place, highly recommended
The place and the team were amazing, The chef is Michelin Star standard. Sanal the naturalist who was aligned to me was great, he went over and above. Loved his knowledge of the biodiversity and wildlife. I was solo traveller so Sanal even sat with me for meals. The team are amazing and very attentive and polite. The rooms are luxurious and you really feel you are immersed in the national park.
Sunil - India
The rooms are spacious and well appointed, with very comfortable beds! Cottages are built for privacy, in the natural habitat. The food was tasty and we had multiple delicious meals - both Indian and Continental.

Fantastic and authentic
The lodge takes care of all the details, from cold drinks at entrance every time we come back from the safaris, to special dinners every night watching documentaries, tradicional food and pottery sessions at lunch time, it made everything feels very authentic, respectful and enjoyable. The ecologists and the nature specialist were very good, insightful in their search inside the jungle and helpful before, during and after the safaris

We stayed at Forsyth Lodge to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. The rooms were spacious and beautifully done, and the ambiance was perfect for couples.

![Not all birds migrate thousands of miles with a red badge of beauty.
But the Taiga and Red-breasted Flycatchers do, and they visit Satpura each winter.
At first glance, they look almost identical.
But a closer look reveals subtle clues:
🟥 The red-breasted bird has a deeper red chested
⚫ A darker beak for the Taiga
That’s the magic of birdwatching: you learn to see what most people miss.
At Forsyth, we study these seasonal visitors not just to identify them, but to understand their journey.
Because every wing has a story.

![It may look ordinary, but it’s been part of daily life in ways you might not expect.
The Camel Foot Tree goes by many names: Kachnar, Keular, and Mountain Ebony.
In forests, it feeds pollinators. In kitchens, it becomes chutneys and fritters.
And in medicine, it’s been used for everything from ulcers to diabetes long before labs took interest.
Native to South and Southeast Asia, it’s also one of the few trees whose leaves carry folklore and are said to resemble the foot of a camel, split like the journey between seasons.
At Forsyth, it’s part of our landscape and our learning.
Because every plant has a story. You just have to pause long enough to hear it.

![Most people don’t know this, but the most trafficked animal in the world isn’t a tiger or an elephant.
It’s the pangolin.
They are the only mammals that are fully covered in scales.
Those scales are just keratin (the same thing our nails are made of), yet they’re sold illegally for “medicine” and superstition.
That single fact is why pangolins top every global wildlife trafficking list.
In 14 years of being in the wild, we’ve never seen one in the jungle.
That’s how rare they’ve become.
The good news?
India has finally stepped up.
Pangolins are now Schedule 1 protected species, the same level as tigers, with stronger surveillance, anti-poaching units, and rescue networks trying to save what’s left.
The myths have pushed this tiny animal to the brink of extinction.
But still fighting, thanks to people working quietly behind the scenes.
At Forsyth, we share these stories because awareness is often the first step to conservation.

![If you’ve ever seen a tiger curl its lips, stick out its tongue and hold a strange “funny face” for a few seconds… It isn’t being dramatic.
It performs the Flehmen response.
After picking up a scent on a tree or rock, the tiger closes its nostrils and holds that expression to send the smell to the Jacobson’s organ, a special sensory organ that tells it exactly what the scent means.
Is it a female in oestrus?
A rival male marking territory?
Or prey it can track?
In the forest, these tiny behaviours are powerful survival tools, and once you know what they mean, the jungle suddenly feels even more alive.

![Some colours in the forest aren’t just beautiful; they have a story. 🌺
The Lipstick Tree, native to Central and South America, carries bright red pods filled with seeds coated in a natural pigment called annatto.
For centuries, communities have used this pigment to colour food, fabric, and even their skin.
Long before modern cosmetics existed, tribal cultures used this vibrant red as a lip colour, giving the tree its name: the Lipstick Tree.
So the next time you spot something bright red in the wild, remember nature has been making colour long before we did.🌿

![When the forest sleeps, some stay awake. 🌙
At Forsyth Lodge, our 44-acre property is shared with leopards, sloth bears even tigers.
And while we rarely see them, the forest always whispers their presence.
Langurs and spotted deer become our early warning system.
Their sharp alarm calls tell us a predator is near, long before we ever spot a pugmark.
So next time you’re here, listen closely.
The forest always speaks you just have to tune in. 🌿

![Ever heard of a coffee that comes from poop? ☕
Meet the Indian Palm Civet the animal behind the world’s most expensive brew, Kopi Luwak.
In the wild, civets eat ripe coffee cherries, and the beans that pass through their system ferment naturally, giving the coffee its unique flavor.
But what began as a natural wonder has turned cruel today, many civets are caged and force-fed coffee beans for mass production.
All for a cup of “luxury.”
Sometimes, nature’s beauty pays the price for human taste. 🌿

When the forest goes quiet, it doesn’t sleep, it shifts. 🌙
The same birds that fill the air with calls by day find quiet corners to rest by night.
Inside the lodge, you might spot Indian Hornbills, Spotted Doves, or Red-vented Bulbuls tucked away in hidden roosts.
Each bird with its own favourite branch, beam, or ledge a secret night home few ever notice.
So next time you walk the trails after dark,
look closer the forest is still alive, just resting. 🕊️

![Ever seen these tiny brown pellets in the wild? 🐇
They might look like candy… but they’re rabbit poop and here’s the wild part.
Rabbits actually eat their own poop.
Yep, it’s called coprophagy nature’s way of giving them a second chance to digest what their body missed the first time.
Since rabbits can’t chew food twice like cows do, this is how they extract every last bit of nutrition.
Efficient, weird, and kinda genius.
Nature’s full of surprises would you have guessed this one? 🌿

FAQ's
Have a question? We have you covered.
We adhere to the responsible eco-tourism guideline of using about 10% of land for construction and allowing the balance to revert to wilderness. We also use live fencing around the property i.e. no barbed wire for better wildlife safety. It’s certainly pretty good as we have had bears (right outside the main building) and leopard pugmarks in the property. We have resident wild boars on the lodge grounds along with rusty spotted cats, jungle cats, spotted deer, Indian hare (Rufous tailed), monitor lizards, jackals and palm civets.
